Is DIY fence staining worth it?
Rarely. Once you factor in tool rental, stain, prep supplies, and time, DIY costs about the same as hiring a professional — and twice as much if the job needs to be redone. Professional application also lasts longer because surface prep is done correctly the first time.
Which stain holds up best in South Carolina’s climate?
We use Expert Stain & Seal — a deep-penetrating oil-based formula with high pigment and low VOCs. It penetrates the wood fibers rather than sitting on top, which means it doesn’t peel and handles SC’s heat and humidity cycles.
How long does stain last on a fence or deck?
The products we use carry up to a 3-year warranty when applied correctly on properly prepped wood. In practice, most jobs last beyond that — especially when the wood was cleaned and brightened before application.
Does my fence need cleaning before staining?
Yes — always. Stain applied to dirty or oxidized wood won’t penetrate and will fail early. We clean and brighten every surface before staining. On aged or previously stained wood, we strip the old stain first.
Do I need to be home during the job?
No. As long as we have access to the fence or deck, you don’t need to be present. We’ll communicate before and after the job, and send photos when it’s done.
